Do people here preheat their Behmor before roasting with it? I've been looking over CoffeeGeek to see how the Behmor is being used and Joe Behm recommends a 1 minute pre-heat if you have the new chaff tray. Here's the particular post.

I haven't used the preheat routine yet, but will give it a go tonight. Perhaps it's something particular to the lower-voltage models but neither manual makes any reference to it.

OK. I've switched my brain on now idiot2. I tried the preheat last night before a roast. I cut the roast about 1 minute early - the same length of time as the preheat. Rather than preheating, it makes sense to add time to the roast if needed. The idea of a preheat just adds another step to the process.

Yeah, you came to the same conclusion I did Gary. ;-)
I think it's a Northern Hemisphere thing: voltage drop issues and often much colder ambient temperatures are probably behind the advise.

Cheers

I'm leaning towards the pre-heat. I typically do 3 batches of 400g ( most recently 425g). The first batch will be up to a minute longer. A pre-heat I think will mean the times of the batches will be about the same. Now if i waited an hour between batches it would not make any difference but I cant see any reason for the prolonged wait.

Still on the learning curve.
